What is the Viking Lotto?
Viking Lotto launched on 17 March 1993 as a partnership between the state lotteries of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Denmark. It was the first cross-border lottery in Europe, predating EuroMillions. The draw is operated by Norsk Tipping in Hamar, Norway.
The game format is two pools. You select six main numbers from 1 to 48, then one Viking number from 1 to 5 drawn from a separate pool. Because the Viking number comes from its own pool, it can match one of your main numbers. Match all seven and you win the jackpot. The full rules are set out on the how to play page.
